F1 no longer on any free to air as Live events.

Oh dear,

F1 will not be available on any free to air platform in the U.K. EXCEPT for the British race.

It will be broadcast live on Sky and only highlights, a minimum of 3h later and with many other restrictions as regards content, will be on C4 for this year....

There are many concerns that the audience will drop from the average 2.5 million per event to around 600,000 only on PayTV.

Advertisers including the big brands like Honda, Mercedes etc are concerned about the lack of exposure.

The massive fee that Sky is paying equates to 11% of F1's total income.

A very retrograde step IMO, we will certainly NOT be watching any of the races, probably even the GB one as not having the build up will reduce the value of a one-off event.

What do others think ?

I suspect the money men at F1 (all American so the don’t understand how the British public think) will very quickly realise that by taking Sky’s money they will actual be reducing their income due to the colossal drop in viewer numbers, which the F1 sponsors will VERY quickly cotton onto, and reduce/remove their sponsorship. And THAT will impact on the income of the F1 owners.

Its not the destination that matters.

It's who you share the journey with (even if like me, it’s in a caravan!)

Hasnt Sky bought world wide rights to F1 so will be the only broadcaster providing race pictures to the world, hence the price

If that is the case then they could well see a very significant drop in interest and hence advertising revenue, it may prove to be a retrograde step.

There was an interesting article on the BBC website, but I cannot link to it sadly, in which there were details of audience figures and also a very balanced discussion about why the "drop in audience will simply not happen, this will lead to reduced exposure overall and possibly fewer people wanting to get involved. Worth trying to find IMO.

Football has gone the same way all Premier Division matches are only on pay fo platforms, but football is reported as the only example where such a thing has proved to be successful. I doubt that F1 has a large enough fan base to make that step work.

Personally I refuse to pay for any content when there is so much free stuff to keep us 'amused'.
It's partly an economy thing and partly principal. In fact I hate monthly payments for anything and much prefer to only pay once and know where I am.

Don’t worry, you can always stand on a bridge and watch the M25. It’s much more entertaining! 😂

I'm not signing anything.

The two impulses in travel are to get away from home, and the other is to pursue something - a landscape, people, an exotic place. Certainly finding a place that you like or discovering something unusual is a very sustaining thing in travel.

Agree, very sad but at least we are aware who he was ......

With the regime for the next five years a similar sad event in 2024/5 could well be met with many people asking "Who ? ".

Last year I bought a 24 hour sky sports pass on Now TV for £8.99 occasionally. Will probably do the same this year for selected Grand Prixs dependant on whether I think they will turn into processions or not. Not bad value for the Sunday race but I wouldn't pay for a years coverage. Will just have to be selective as I am not paying their exorbitant fees for some of the rubbish on TV.
