Sad news, I used to watch all his programs and absorb his skills, have one of his rods, will be using it on Friday in Newark so will think of him.

A great angler loved his programmes and videos. Iíve just bought one of his Traveller Avon rods. Nice bit if kit.

I'm not signing anything.

The two impulses in travel are to get away from home, and the other is to pursue something - a landscape, people, an exotic place. Certainly finding a place that you like or discovering something unusual is a very sustaining thing in travel.

Going back to the nineties, I and two others used to fish for him on a charter boat in Essex. He would sit in the cabin while the three of us fished for Smoothhounds. When "Fish On" was called out he would come and take over. We would then disappear into the cabin while he brought the fish on board in front of the cameras.

We obviously had a days free fishing and if we were lucky, an invitation to join him on a future "Shoot".

"Thanks lads, see you on the next trip." A miserable tight fisted old B****r.

I would prefer to say that I am British rather than European.
