42 years and counting.

In 1971 I took up fishing. As a law-abiding citizen I bought a rod licence. I buy a new licence every year. This year's licence is my 42nd. In all those years I have never, ever, not once been asked to produce this licence. Can anyone else beat 42 years?

Yes I took up fishing when I was about 6/7 am 62 this year also never been asked.

Even when fishing for eels in the close season and the river board where cleaning the dykes in which we where fishing.

You try and report somebody for netting in the river, nobody wants to know.

I'm only a 'holiday' angler and have been asked twice for my licence.

I must have that shifty look about me!

I'm not signing anything.

The two impulses in travel are to get away from home, and the other is to pursue something - a landscape, people, an exotic place. Certainly finding a place that you like or discovering something unusual is a very sustaining thing in travel.

Yeah me. I took up fishing when I was 17 and on my second outing on a reservoir I got busted by the local bailif for not having a licence or permit. He took all my gear and prosecuted me!

It was just some remote lake in the dales (or so I thought). I didn't even think I needed a licence.

I got one though and they used to frequently check on the Tees.

Haven't been fishing for year though now

Been fishing for about 20 years and had to produce my licence several times.
The first time was when my bro in law was visiting (keen angler) and I took him down to the canal near Tring, after awhile he persuaded me to have a go and tackled up his spare rod.
I moved to the next peg and attempted to cast, tie hooks etc without much success.
The guy on the next peg watched me for about 15 mins then came up and said, I am the water bailiff, not much point in asking to see your licence then, no I said first time I have tried to fish.
He spent 1/2 hour with me showing me what to do then as he left he said, if you decide to take it up make sure you buy a licence.
