Have you got fibre to the house Gordon? We have it to the pole outside and our speed is 11.3. Don't know if we need it any faster really?

Perhaps it's to do with your supplier? Fibre comes into the cabinet at the bottom of "our" road then it's copper wire on poles for about 200 metre to our track, 20m down the track, junction box and 20m above the garden to the house plus 4m to the "master box".

We did get the master box replaced by a "better" one a couple of years ago: I reported a fault which was eventually traced to my internal wiring BUT the engineer was a friend of our daughter and recognised her photo on our "rouges gallery". He said he would put it down as a faulty master box and gave us an upgraded one (whatever that means).

I check the costs of broadband packages every year and go for the best combination of speed and price. Being retired we have had "anytime" phone calls for several years but we don't worry about gaming-speeds. Length of contract is another consideration, as things often get cheaper over time. Currently we are with EE and are paying just over £28 per month.

Current offers via USwitch are:

Ah, there we might have it. I am terrified to change supplier as we lost money on it one time because our contract wasn't up. Have not long signed up again with BT so can't change for a while. Before that I was with TalkTalk who are truly awful. My bill is regularly around £60 per month with them. That is not for their fastest speed either! We hardly use the phone now though. Daughter calls us on Facetime.
