Slovenia anyone?

Went over to Budapest last year in the van and had a great time. It's a smashing city and so inexpensive I've decided to go again this August, but on the motorbike. To make it interesting I'll be going over the Col de la Bonnette pass in the alps, across the top of Italy and up through Slovenia into Hungary. I don't know much about Slovenia, ie camping, state of the roads, people etc. Has any of you good folk been recently and if so let me have a few tips please?

Nick.

A small deed done is better than a great deed planned.

Slovenia is brilliant. I spent 9 weeks between there and Crostia two years ago. Great place to drive round. Check out the Slovenia Touring forum for details.

Personal Aire
Was there about 10 years ago, going through to northern Croatia. A lovely small country, and its capital Ljubiana is a real gem, with a good campsite.

Not so many relics of communism as Croatia, and it was certainly more prosperous then.

Another vote for Slovenia, alpine feel, makes Austria look slovenly and it's much cheaper, Lake Bled is incredibly picturesque. Food is good too. Need vignette for motorways but we managed quite well on ordinary roads but you won't make the best of time.

Thanks everyone for your replies. My original post was over a year ago and I have since done the trip. I only stayed in Slovenia for a couple of days on the same campsite. I found the campsite owner very welcoming, they even gave me a carafe of wine the day I arrived. I ate and drank in the local bar where once again was made to feel welcome and as mentioned earlier everything was nice and cheap. Hopefully I will be visiting the country again for a longer stay.
