Going back to the original question, having got the vehicle back out of storage, I have tried a 2 GB USB 2 HDD on the Avtex and it is fine. Maybe I spend more time reading their rather indifferent instructions to work out what they meant as opposed to...

So the original query has now been solved...

I was interested in the follow up about small speakers. Very nice but I guess that "Mad Max 2" on speaker won't go down well with those trying to read a newspaper on their tablet. So I will stick with ear pieces!!

Thanks as usual for all of your help and advice.

Geoffrey.

The USB speakers are also useful for most motorhome TVs. Our TV speakers are pretty naff especially if its raining or windy. Most 12v Portable TVs have USB port and a 3.5mm jack so you can also plug the USB speakers into the TV and power them from it as well as your laptop. Makes a big difference.

Over the ear Headphones (not on ear) are easier to wear for long periods than earphones. I have a vague memory that Fat drives are limited to 2gb, but if the 2gb drive you tried was Fat32 that may not apply. If so maybe you USB hard drives will work.

I found that over ear types made my ears too hot, too be honest nothing is better than quality speakers, but not good for individual listening.

Ok. Thanks for your advice. It has been really appreciated.
I have now tried a pair of Tesco "Sony" headphones. I accept that I could get them cheaper on Ebay but after 14 months of shielding HID, just to get out and actually feel what you are about to buy was irresistible. Very cumfy and I have had no complaints about running "Air America" fairly loudly from the reader of the Daily Mail!!
They produced very good sound quality by headphone standards but if you are talking of comparing them with a pair of Baxendall speakers on full chat... No competition but they would clear the "CL".

I am a happy co-resident and so is HID.
