Hope you get it to work GG - it won't with my Win10 laptop. I think it still works with my old XP machine but haven't looked at it in well over a year (or 2)
Yep it's a nightmare or it can be. I have a new Windows laptop and my working 2013 version is on my w8 laptop. I've not gone across the water this summer so not bothered to try it yet.
I have a couple Tomtoms and a built in Pioneer in the van but I don't think you can beat Autoroute for ease of planning mileage on a large scale map.IMO.
Yeah I used to be totally organized with Autoroute, and I really liked being able to save my travels for future reference. I had a gps hooked up to a computer so we could see full size maps and track our travels. But since the maps are outdated I stopped using it. It was working ok on my older computer with windows 10 though. I am going to try it on my new one just to see if it works or not. Now we use Google maps mostly just with the phone. With free roaming in the EU it is easy and the map is always up to date. It also gives traffic info live and free.
Think you can set-up a number of Garmin sat navs to "record" your travels and BaseCamp can show maps scaled from feet to the whole world (and they're up to date).
well it does seem to work fine on my older computer which in fact has the latest version windows 10 on it. but I can´t find the files to install on my new computer.
Good news that you have it working. its just possible that whatever the issues were some update or other has rectified whatever the issue was.
I liked Autoroute as there are so many POI for it like the CC infos Aires. I had all the same ones loaded in Autoroute as I have on my TomTom so ideal for sitting in the back of the van on a night plotting routes etc then just transferring to the sat nav in the morning. It was always interesting to see if Autoroute and the TomTom plotted the same route and if not why not! Of course they day you dont bother will all that is the day you end up 5000ft up along a goat track.
I suppose Google maps is good now as data is cheap but there are no POI for it as far as I know.
I think you can run the maps off a stick in AR, I know Ive certainly easily transferred mine. However its way out of date now and discontinued so its useful life is now limited. Can you run Basecamp offline?
BaseCamp is a standalone package you download for free from Garmin and install on a Windows or MAC machine.
Once installed you don't need an internet connection unless you're updating the maps via Garmin Express.
To download the maps for the first time you need to have a supported Garmin sat nav connected (via USB) to the computer.
Subsequently this is recognised as "approved" and you can download and update maps with or without the sat nav connected.
Obviously you need the sat nav connected to update the maps on that.
You can load an unlimited (I think) number of POI's on the sat nav and BaseCamp from gpx\csv files.
Sounds good but Ive always been a TomTom man unfortunately. I might have a Garmin somewhere though someone gave me but I bet its ancient and not supported. I think I tried Maps.me Fats by the way and didnt get on with it but it was a while back. Anyway I know where Im going now. Europes not that big.
I guess we just get used to one or the other like Macs and Windows.
I didn't like the built in sat nav in our VW at first but it's grown on me and apart from inputting long & lat it does absolutely everything I could wish for.
But I have to admit to carrying a Garmin up behind the sun visor as well to show more accurate speed and radar cameras.
We use our Tomtom for keeping an eye on the speed limits over here as they change ever couple of miles or so even on duel carriageways for no apparent reason. We got booked for speeding when not using the Tomtom but you don't get points on your license so I suppose that's why the majority of the Spanish seem to ignore the speed limits.:frown2:
