What type of backup for smartphone?

My Huawei Honor 8x is offering a software update including some android security updates. I want to back up the phone so none of my personal stuff (settings/notes/files etc) is lost.

When I search Settings for Backup I see:
Phone clone under 'Other' and
Backup account and
Backup and Restore under 'System & Updates'

Which should I opt for? I'm inclined to go for Backup and Restore under 'System & Updates'.

Good question Jean. I recently thought it might be a good idea to back mine up to a hard drive so I'd have everything to put on a new phone in case the current one ever just stopped working. The whole business was so complicated that I just gave up.

There are apps allowing you to back your phone up to your phone so that you can recover it from a crash but not a lot to help you if it just stops working, which I suppose eventually they all do.

I'd have thought you could just have mirrored it onto a memory stick, but apparently not.

I shall watch with interest.

Yeah, it all sounds quite simple till you actually start to think about it or actually do it.

Doesn't the SIM retain all the necessary info and numbers?
The apps can be downloaded again onto any new phone and after swapping the SIM should be the same?

We are talking a lot more that just phone numbers Ray. It's all the info on a smart phone we want to secure, or at least I do.

I guess I'm a limited user then Alan. Contacts and some pics are all I need to change over.
Everything else I use like e-mail addresses, WhatsApp contacts and apps are all online.

Does your phone system not include that, Samsung does and pretty sure Apple do as well.

Yes, I want ALL the info backed up. And since I do virtually everything on my phone these days, it's a lot!

Do you mean backup John? Yes, I've various options, as indicated in the OP but I don't know which to choose to back up EVERYTHING. I suspect Phone Clone but I don't know. And does Phone Clone allow you to move to a different phone if your own dies?

Yep. Because if not it is pretty pointless. I want put it all on a memory device so I can put in on another phone relatively easily. Backing up to the phone I want to backup is a fairly useless.
