Help. Can't log into AOL today on phone.

Hello and Help.
Been using my HTC smart phone for about a year now and always check my AOL and Gmail mail frequently. Occasionally I am asked to log in again to various accounts. AOL, Facebook, etc. Usually it's just clicking OK and accept.
But today I keep getting the message "Login Failed" and offering go to settings.
I click settings and there is my AOL e-mail address, Username, Password, IMAP SERVER (imap.aim.com, server port 993. But clicking NEXT gets me a message unable to proceed.
"Some of the information you entered is incorrect. Please review your settings and try again".

But I haven't changed anything and am not really sure what imap server or server port should be?

Heeeeellpp.

Ray.

Still going round in circles for hours. Guess I will have to delete the AOL mail app and start again.

Sadly I don't think you'll get much help on here Ray, is there an AOL help forum?

It's not actually an AOL problem Kev. It's the settings in the HTC. I have deleted the AOL account but don't seem to be able to reinstate it again.
I do have another AOL address installed as a separate AOL icon and not on the HTC MAIL app icon.

HTC is saying it's not connecting to the server or I have entered wrong log in info. But just going round and round.

Yes, I got that Ray, I was meaning there may be someone else who has found a solution on the AOL forum.

OH OK Kev.
Going on past searches with AOL problems most are stateside and millions of em. I was just hoping some knowledgeable member might be an Android or even HTC expert.

For starters whats the difference between IMAP and POP and does it make any difference which is selected?

I go into the phone and delete the old account and then add my AOL account again. It shows as my AOL account but just keeps UPDATING until time out again and again.

Careful Ray. Dont go switching to pop. Depending on the settings it just possible it could download everything to your phone and delete it all off the AOL server so the next time you login on the PC there will be nothing there. Unlikely but ive see it happen and in one instance the bloke in the phone shop lost one of my clients entire email contents.

IMAP should be what you need. Does this help? https://www.lifewire.com/what-are-ao...ttings-1170847

Whew thanks Barry. Made sure it's IMAP.
Now when I try to log in I get the message …..
"Your account couldn't be verified because the server isn't responding. Check that your server information was entered correctly or choose to continue with setup anyway".

Then we just go round in circles again.

Just tried all that Barry and thought it was all happening but in the end just went round updating again.

But thanks for that info and will keep for ref.
