You sure you got a good internet connection on the phone? Make sure you can browse the web and maybe try a restart. Also might be worth checking the server settings on your PC. I suspect the actual server will be the same

Thanks again Barry and yes made a pint of checking I still had G-mail, WhatsApp, Skype, Facebook and Twitter all up and running as well as my 7 mbps internet allows.
I also have a separate AOL app on the phone for another e-mail address working well.
It's the one I use all the time in the Mail app on the phone.

Ray I had a similar problem recently with my orange.fr account, when they launched a new web site, I could access my mails ref their browser but not via
my Thunderbird account.
The imap details will be in a format like the orange one imap.orang.fr, if you can access your account on a pc you should be able to find your account details.

Thanks John. Not tried accessing my AOL via the phones browser but assume it would do it. But obviously not as handy as having a dedicated icon which shows when you have mail.
I did wonder about the settings on the PC but was worried I might mess up in trawling about searching. Any suggestions?

Thanks John.
Went round in circles again. Took ages trying to locate and fill in all the parameters then it just decided to keep updating until it timed out. Bit late now and brain frazzled. Bed time. Will try again tomorrow for the third day.

It gets odder an odder.
I can access my AOL mail via the browser and end up with an AOL mail icon in the browser to easy access. I can create another AOL mail icon on the home screen. But can't get it set up in the initial MAIL app that comes with the phone on the home screen that will show when I have new mail and how many?
All the other ways just need my e-mail address and password and bingo. But attempting to set up in the MAIL app gives me the same message as before that my account can't be verified?? It must be a problem with the phones MAIL app.

Ironically I bought and received my new to me laptop this am. Logged on and immediately set up my AOL account with just screen name and password. No problems.

Nope Drew, it was £149 worth of HP 15-ay020na 15.6'' LED Screen Red / White Laptop Notebook Win 10 Quad Core 256GB SSD.
So far very happy with it as it replaces another but older Win 7 laptop about 6 years old we just use when travelling.
