Hi Kev

Been out this morning so only just seen your posts Kev.

I told you it'd work didn't I?

Sounds as if you might have the acid a bit on the strong side, just have it strong enough to do the job, experimentation is the key. You'll probably find that the last stubborn remnants take quite a long soak to remove. Next time you'll only need a much weaker solution once the years of neglect have been cleared.

I came to the same conclusion, I tipped it down the manhole on our drive as it had stopped fizzing, and put one cup in, so effectively half as strong, put my timer on and going to look in half an hour.

I think I'd call this a 99% success, thanks to Gaspode.

See new pictures in link below and compare them with the earlier ones, took about an hour altogether, there a bit left on top of the mech, but it's not causing any problems, so It'll stay put until if and when it needs to be re-done.

That looks a bit better Kev.

I think I'd put a weak solution in, turn it upside down and leave it overnight though to get the top mechanism clean.

I will after we've used it again, let it dry out a bit in case the potent mixture got into the plastic bits.
