Hi folks

Just considering buying our first motorhome. We need to hire one first though - looking to do that at the end of March.

We visited the Scottish Motorhome Show yesterday ... we were like kids at Disneyland!

We’ve decided on our ideal van (and plan to hire the exact model next month) - an Elddis 145.

We’ve found a few online - all in England (we’re in Edinburgh) 🙄, but I’ve noticed some discrepancies in the pictures and stats.

Basically, the lengths are quoted as 6.47, 6.24, and 6.25 for 145s, and 5.36 for a 145 Majestic. Can anyone enlighten me? Is the Majestic different? It seems to have one less window than the 145. Might the differences in length for the 145 be because of boxes/bike racks?

Anyone have a 145? Any points of things to look out for? Pros & cons of this model?

Next question concerns budgeting.

What do I need to budget for when buying? Cost of van, insurance, tax, fuel, and breakdown cover. Anything else right away?

For trips - gas canisters, pitch costs, fuel. What else?

Thanks in advance! 🙏

Welcome. Can't help with your make/model queries. Your budgeting sounds about right to me.

Brexiters. It's your sh1t now. Whatever happens nationally and internationally you own it. I wish you luck. I think you're going to need all you can get and then some. Friday 13th December 2019.

Welcome. Don't know the models but it's worth budgeting a bit more for a few extras over and above the obvious ones mentioned. It's best though to find out what you need once you start using it rather than buying a load of toys you may never use.

The obvious ones and must haves for me are solar power and refillable lpg like Gaslow. Satellite TV. Is another many seem to want.

Bikes and bike racks?

When your looking at the models available you may well find some that have all this stuff fitted and often it doesn't reflect in the selling price but might swing it for you as they cost a few quid to fit later.

"What do I need to budget for when buying?"

Storage - as in, do you need to store the MH away from home?
Electric hookup?
Awning? (just the sunshade, wind-out type - full awnings tend not to be practical unless you're sitting a while).
Kettle (Electric n gas), toaster (electric n gas)?

Later on you'll probably want to get MH-dedicated bedding, pots n pans, plates etc but you can make do initially with stuff from home (tho the repeated packing/unpacking will change your mind sooner or later!)
