New Motorhome purchase costs

Just about to take the plunge with a factory order of a new Hymer. Had an acceptable quote from the dealership but with one issue which I'm unsure about. Hymer's pricelist and the dealer has quoted prices with a caveat that "All prices are recommended retail prices in GBP including legal applicable VAT, freight from Germany, first registration fee and pre-delivery inspection. Road tax (VED) as well as possible import duties are not included and will be charged separately". I'm unsure about the possible import duties bit. Anyone bought a new van recently which although manufactured in the EU was bought via a UK dealership and can advise me if import duties were payable and if so how they were calculated?

there should be no import duties, we are still effectively in the EU single market.
RonnieA and David Cowley like this.

As far as I know, the only motorhoming Oxford United supporter in Felpham.

I don't feed trolls!

Hopefully you are aware of the recently changed "first registration fee" and increased VED.

And the increase applies to those vehicles registered after 1st April and applies to all vehicles with a list price over £40K, which a new Hymer will far exceed.

Its not the destination that matters.

It's who you share the journey with (even if like me, itís in a caravan!)
I am very fortunate to have Mrs Plodd to share mine with

I read in one of the quality Sundays that the first year VED will be about £2500 and for four years after will be an extra £200 on top of existing VED. No figures exact but close I think.

It just confirms my decision to keep my 12 year old autosleeper (2006 when autosleepers still had a reasonable reputation). There is a group somewhere trying to get this
change overturned.

Suggest you get your Hymer registered in Germany before April fools day, since "they" have placed a charge on the service anyway. It will then be second hand, I think........Add a little confusion ! If it's a new tax, perhaps you might get away with it.
