In Flanders Fields: The Name List

The organisers of this superb exhibition in the Cloth Hall at Ypres, are building up a database, The Name List. This includes the names, and as much detail as they are given, on all the people killed in Flanders during World War 1. This includes allied, and German soldiers as well as civilians. The aim is that they shall not be forgotten.

The database is searchable, without charge. If you have, or might have had, ancestors who died in Flanders and wish to either find them or add information about them, then this is the link to start searching:

That is a great resource G, especially as it commemorates both sides in Flanders.

Recently, I researched the death of a friend's grandfather in WW1, as he didn't known what had happened to him. It showed his grandfather's battalion was virtually wiped out on their first engagement, and a published article by a lone survivor made emotional reading.

I'll tell him about this new website, although "Gone West" doesn't sound quite right.
