What wifi and phone for US and Canada

I will be spending 6 weeks in the US and 2 in Canada in September and October.

I have an Iphone on Vodafone which means I can use 25mb for 5 a day. Phone calls will be extra. I dont want to swap sims in this unit

However, I have a Huawei Mifi unit which I can put a sim in and a spare phone for calls. The question is what SIMs would be better. I have a US address I can borrow.

thanks
Andrew

Andrew:

We are regular visitors to the USA and our standard laptop wifi works almost anywhere, as does our Nokia tri-band 6303i.

All the motels have free wifi, Super8, Motel6 etc and most shopping centres have it as well.

No matter which laptop we have used over the years and 15 trips, we have never had any wifi connection issues.

Check with Vodafone as to access charges for UK sims, as they switch you to Verizon or another supplier when you are there.

We just use the phone as and when needed, but we don't have data needs. Calling any USA/Canada number is straightforward, just dial the number with the area code, receiving calls mean that anyone dialling you has to have the full internal call prefix +44 and the dialling code without the '0' prefix : +44 7836 2XX2XX for example.

There was a comparison of the current options in PC Mag a few months ago:

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2414494,00.asp

page 2 has a summary of costs vs Plan (txts, Mb of data etc).
