Searching for stamped VIN No. on N&B Arto 2002 chassis

For registration purposes we need to find the stamped VIN number, not the weight plates which are obvious, on a N&B Arto Fiat 2002 chassis..

Obviously being an 'A' Class it is not in the normal cab footwell etc. We are told that one place for Fiat to stamp is on the engine frame but we cannot find it.

Can anyone help please?

Do you mean on the glass itself - hardly permanent against theft.

Or do you mean on the bodywork ? but that is all plastic.

N&B have said access is through a hole in the gas locker where we found a plastic cover but cannot find the number inside.

I wil call N&B again.

Normally ................... every vehicle has it's VIN number that can be seen at the bottom left/right of the screen. As you would look down on a tax disk. Might have to move the wiper or bonnet.

Like this.

Suspect an A Class is more than a little different though Ray.

Find out where the chassis manufacturer puts them.

I doubt the converter moves them.

That's interesting - I always thought the VIN had to be stamped on the engine. Haven't checked my A-class tho.

It has to be easily visible for a customs inspection I think and the interior scuttle panel is the most difficult to hide or mess with as it is a screen out job usually.

Jean, the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is the chassis identification, the engine has its own number.

Geoff, the standard position for Ducato's is stamped into the front face of the right hand door footwell, probably not accessible on yours, although the very early ones (80's) was on the left hand step.
Not sure when they started putting them in the bottom left corner of the screen (as well as the other position.)
