How much longer?

I'm about to climb up the wall, big style cabin fever!! Bought our first van on 18th May and apart from driving it home and one excursion to the supermarket, 100 miles altogether, nothing going!!
I heard that, should we get caught in the van driving a long way from home, we'd get fined? Is this true?

After 66 years on this planet i finally figured out that people are their own worst enemies!!

I would be happy with another six months of lockdown or confinement. And I'm sure the planet would benefit.

Ray.

Which country are you in - the answer may not be the same . . .

Yes, itís frustrating having shelled out for an asset that you canít use yet - but things will ease eventually (optimist head on) and those who want to will be able to get some sort of use out of our motorhomes.

Iíve heard of people who collected their motorhomes on the day before lockdown started - and still not able to use them.

John

I feel for you Ingo! I always say I'm just as excited now when I get behind the wheel as I was when I started 13yrs ago.

But it's not the same if you can't actually go anywhere!

It would be an idea tho to spend a few days (and nights) in the van figuring out how everything works. Then when you get the OK, you really are set to go.

You can drive as far as you want in England but unless you have reasonable cause, you are expected to return home on the same day so that you spend the night in your principal private residence.i.e. you are not allowed to stay in the motorhome. The rules in Scotland and Wales are different and in particular you are not allowed to drive into those countries from England for leisure purposes.

For me itís different

I already was doubting the wisdom of keeping the motor home

Itís hardly moved from the drive even before Covid Alberts cancer and my crap joints didnít helped

But I remember the excitement when we bought out first MH so I feel for you

Ours is the only method to transport my Tricycle

And I havenít yet learnt to ride it yet

So Iím guessing a few day trips to local parks will still be in order

And then who knows maybe a trip when lockdown eases

Personal Aire
There is talk of some sites maybe opening in July. Im not sure wild camping is going to go down well for a while yet, it was kind of on iffy ground anyway. Its just up in the air really. We kind of wrote this year off in March but we have been motorhoming for years and years so I Can understand the OP's frustration with a new van, must be awful. As suggested, I would spend a few days in it at home, maybe off hookup, make sure everything works. you may find out what extras you need. Solar? TV? How long the water lasts.

My hope is we will get to go to our favourite CL about 100 miles away on the coast. I already sounded them out but the farmer is just unsure if they will open or not (Mrs D says they might just for us ). One things for sure, pitches will be in demand so think ahead.

I know many people don't stay on sites in the UK but I reckon that when they do reopen the demand will be big. People who've not got out for several months and many people who might have gone abroad who won't now be going. I've pre-booked in early September one of the favourite places we go as I reckon demand will rocket when sites are allowed to reopen.

The roads here in Normandy are thick with vans coming and going. Our neighbours went last tuesday on day one.
