Hmm. So its now ok to thumb through your vast music collection trying to find your favourite Rock God Baz track but not ok to speak to someone?

Filming an accident while driving past it and the rozzers and then appealing the sentence took some Gonads!! Totally shocked by this result.

I haven't read all the bumf, but I think drivers should be banned from using any handheld device of any description for whatever purpose.

Anything can be fixed into a mount these days and, as drivers, we should accept that using non-fixed technology is unnecessary, distracting and dangerous.

If it's urgent, pull off the road to use it.

I'm daft and proud of it.

The result makes perfect sense, they just need to add to the existing law that a driver cannot make videos or take pictures, excepting those via a dash cam, or play music via a phone if you have to do it manually.

Prosecuting him for use of a mobile phone may not have been the best approach - driving without due care and attention may have made more sense. Hindsight is wonderful - but at least nobody got hurt and the legal profession are a little richer.

I suspect he wouldn’t get so lucky if he does it again.

John

What then about using your phone as a navigational device. Is that an electronic communication?

As someone once said

Andy

Its not the destination that matters.

It's who you share the journey with (even if like me, it’s in a caravan!)
I am very fortunate to have Mrs Plodd to share mine with

Not according to the courts/law although I use Google maps with my data turned on, but then again I am stationary when I set the route, there is a new ruling regarding the position of sat navs if using a screen mount, it cannot impede your view of the road.

We use it for satnav navigation but since our programme is pre-loaded with maps in the memory all the phone is doing is using the GPS signal and the memory so no communication.

It also does not eat into data allowance.

I did once wonder (but got no further) just how much data Google maps and other apps such as CoPilot use when allowed to go online. I only get 3gb a month but never run out, Google maps are great if you're looking for a company I just do a search and choose directions.
