Am I doing something wrong..... when I unhook my lead and wind it round the standard orange wheel everyone owns, because after a few uses the lead becomes twisted and looped. Could it be because I wind it round the wheel manually instead of using the handle on the wheel to draw the lead onto the wheel.

It is very frustrating and makes your arm ache lol

Cheers

Dave

Don't wind it onto the roll, stretch it out straight and roll the roll along it. Similarly don't pull it off the side of the roll, roll out the roll. If that makes sense. Another solution is, if like me you don't use a lot of current, to get a thinner cable. The normal 2.5sq mm flex is much more difficult than 1.5

When I used to have to coil ropes the trick was to give it a half twist as you foil it into your hand - it was easiest to build up the bulk of the coils in your left hand and form them using your right hand, rolling the rope/wire as you add the new loop to the bulk in the left hand - that was a simple roll between thumb and the side of the first finger.

Just in case you decide to do it without the reel.....

It's such a faff I dare not unroll it again. Just keep carrying it around.

I had the same problem the orange PVC cable is awful especially if it gets cold, Like Glandwr I don't use much leccy so made myself 2 new leads 10m and 15m with rubber sheathed 1.5m cable.
the rubber sheathed is so much nicer to use than PVC and is still rated at 16amps.
The only issue I foresee is using it on CACC sites as I believe some wardens might get annoyed if you don't use orange cable

Coil your cable - ditch the reel

This guy does drag it out a bit, but the method is simple and it works - https://tinyurl.com/how-to-coil-a-cable

Wot a plonker.
Why not two turns with right hand and then two turns with left hand and so on. No twisting and you become ambidextrous.

Being a bit thick Ray I presume that you transfer the cable from left to right hand every second turn?
