Forgetting to tax your vehicle

Not having it in the window, I managed to forget to tax the car, but we didn't get a penalty, just a letter from DVLA, no fuss no bother, just giving me the opportunity to tax or SORN it, complete with reference number to make it easy for us.

I have to say for once, dealing with DVLA was a pleasure.

Mind you what would have happened had we triggered a ANPR camera I don't know, but at least it was recognised as an oversight by their puter, and we had just re-insured and re-MOTd it this week.

Same thing happened with my scooter, that's only used when abroad, as you say no fuss/bother, just a gentle reminder.

I have the AA app and have input my vehicle details in it, along with tax, MOT, and insurance renewal dates - and it reminds me when each of them is about to fall due.

Very useful when we don't get reminders for the MOT as an example

Did you folks get the letter they normally send out a month before its due? I ask just in case they have stopped sending them...

I make a note on the calendar but do rely on the DVLC letter too...

Which ever way you look at it, we are MUCH BETTER OFF in the EU than outside!

I got reminder letter only 4 days before the tax expired. I could have been on holiday, so wouldn't have seen it, and wondered what would happen if I'd been seen by an ANPR camera so I emailed a complaint to the dvla and they replied that they give reminder letters to the Royal Mail 6 weeks in advance, for them to start sending them out three weeks before due date, so in effect blamed the Royal Mail. They then finished response by telling me they had no obligation to remind me at all and it was my responsibility.

I've put my 2 vehicles on direct debit.

Works for me.

Funny you should say that, I decided that I would sorn the van after it had passed the MOT in middle of January for a couple of months.obviously the vehicle was off road on our drive, but shortly afterwards a car pulled up opposite and checked out the van and then drove off.I recorded the number.

Don't be silly all the time ask your question.
