I am looking to wire an additional 12v socket close to the TV bracket on a Carado T338. I have removed a panel above where the refrigerator is located and found the pre wiring for a satellite. The cable has a white, brown and black wires.
The other end of the cable the brown and white wires are loose and not connected to the EBL 30 the black wire disappears to side of the EBL and appears to be connected to a block along the side of the EBL. The brown wire also has an inline fuse in place but like the white wire is not connected to the EBL.
The advice I am looking for is should I use this sat cable and which wires should I be connecting to. My logic is use the brown and black wires with the white cable being an additional ground wire not required for my task.
Hi Jts49 and welcome to the forum. Sorry your post seems to have got lost. There ARE 12v specialists on here (not me!) who would, I'm sure, be able to answer your question.
What size are the wires?
On most German vans the colour coding for 12 volt supply is brown and blue, with blue being live + and brown earth / negative -.
If the installed wiring is actually intended as satellite feed, probably the wire connected to the Electrobloc will be the D+ feed which ensures the dish retracts with engine start.
To be very much help really need some more info from you.
It is not uncommon for converters to have spare connectors in a location to allow for additions, often found close by the control panel.
Thanks John, I have posted 2 pictures of the cable in question. The 1st is from the cabinet that I would like to connect the new 12V socket to and the 2nd shows the other end of the cable at the EBL.
I am anticipating connecting my 12V socket to to the Brown and the Black wires in Picture 1.
At the other end I anticipate pushing the brown wire in to a spare negative slot on the Block 8 connector.
As you intend to utilise the existing wiring as supply to an extra 12 volt supply socket I guess the colours won't be important, although might be a good idea to label them with what you've done for the future.
You mention that the brown wire has an in line fuse so best to use that as your positive, with a suitably rated for the purpose fuse, unless you want to use the control or fuse of the Electrolock for a particular reason, probably best to pick up your pos and neg feeds from the rear input side of the unit, that way you'll just be linking straight from the source.
Thanks John, I will use the brown and black wires.
Thanks for the advice.
