Servicing of Honda 1kw Generator

Hi,

Just returned from France and our friends caravan fridge wouldn't work on gas so we ended up using my generator rather a lot.

I've had the generator about 7 years now. It runs off petrol and LPG but it gets used very rarely. So I got to thinking it could probably do with a service. I've just phoned a Honda centre and they want £100 + VAT to service it!!!

Surely this should be a fairly easy task of oil change, filter, spark plug?

Does anybody have a set of instructions or advice on how to do this myself?

Thanks
Alan

It'll be easy to do yourself.
If it's an EX1000 I have a PDF of the owners manual I can send you.

Just be aware that "rather a lot" of use in motorhoming terms (maybe 50 or 100 hours?) really is utterly nowt in terms of what these units normally do in any industrial/trade setting.

However, "servicing" one of those things is just about the easiest mechanical task ever.

Change oil, clean spark plug and check gap; wash and reinstall filter if really grubby; a quick spray of moving linkages to carb with a light oil.

Although they contain very little oil be careful when emptying and filling as the oil gets down inside the outer plastic shell. It's hard to get it all out and drips and smells.
aldhp21 and aldhp21 like this.
