You've got a big diesel generator strapped to the front of your van already. Why not just have the engine ticking over for an hour os so. It would be quieter than a generator and is already equipped to put power back into your batteries. If you did at at a time of day when you didn't need the lights or other 12V stuff that would do the trick, wouldn't it?

Not a good idea if the vehicle has a DPF . Clog one when you are away and it will be a slow trip to the nearest garage then a couple of hours re negotiating a mortgage
