gross weight

Well the wife and I with daughter in tow went for a night at Kielder, so I thought on the way I'd get the old bus weighed at weigh bridge at Wigton , so got ticket and it said 2800kg :surprise: checked plate on foot plate and gross weight is 2810kg.
Its not that we carry bicycles or lots of unnecessary junk, it basic essential, couple of chairs and table, thats basical all thats in boot. cant believe the gross weight is so low

That does seem very low David. What van is it (sorry, can't see that info on the mobile version of the site)

There are many many hundreds of posts on this forum and others about maximum permitted gross weights versus actual weights. Almost invariably the discussion is about payload and the lack thereof. It's a sad fact that many motorhome manufacturers distort and disguise the true available payload with the result that many motorhomes are overloaded. So saying it's often possible to have the maximum permitted gross weight increased - sometimes just as a paper exercise, other times by changing tyres and changing the suspension.

Like Jean said that seems very low 2810 kg.
Assume no issues with axle weights . As others have mentioned loads of motor homes are plated at 3500 for licence reasons
but would not know of a reason why plate at 2810.

See my post here re my weight issue https://forums.motorhomefacts.com/20-...900-200kg.html
Was no big deal to get legal

I have been in touch with S V tech about up plating it as some say it can just be a paper exercise, asked me to send photo of V5 and plate, so see what they say , I'm only looking for extra 150-200kg.

It looks like you may get a max of 2985 kg
You may need to fit Air bags and you would have to be very carefull on axle loading as as each wold be at is max if you carried that weight.
What was your axle weights at 2800 weight at the weighbridge as my guess is the front could be more than 1350 if a panel van type vehicle.

Hope you get sorted

It has Airbags fitted to rear not sure if this has been taken into account as there is a gross weight been scratched out and 2810kg added next to it

That plate looks like its been altered as the original weight looks like 2720 which has been obsured and the 2810 stamped on in a different stamp from the front not pressed from rear like the other values , so looks a bit fishy to me

Surely a new plated weight comes with a new plate....not an alteration?:wink2:

Certainly mine did, from SV Tech. It was a plastic-y stick-on rather than a metal plate and it was to be stuck next to the original, not obscuring it.
