Rapido Merc battery

Hi all hope all well. Went to Moho today, dead battery 7 years old.replaced hab batteries last year, got solar panels ,I thought engine battery would be getting charged as well as hab batteries, thought all would be ok after 5 month lay off!! Why has battery died? Are solar panels charging it? Where to start, new battery?

Try taking engine battery home to recharge

Charging engine battery from solar dependant on your installation some do some donít

You need to do a bit more digging to see exactly what system you have

I don't know what an 8Series bonnet is like (and I can't see one on any photos). My 9Series is a PITA!

When my 16yold battery failed I couldn't undo the battery-restraining bracket and eventually called out Britannia Rescue (courtesy of Nationwide FlexPlus account). The guy had a difficult time getting into the compartment and used a "rusted-nut" extractor to remove the fastener. He then had to haul the 20kg battery out through a very narrow gap: we estimated 2mm clearance. He then replaced it with a new one, acquired from Halfords at 20mins notice, and was able to get one nut of the restrainer refastened.

IF you have a similar geometry problem I recommend joining some sort of "rescue/roadside/at home" scheme approx 7days before you need it!

Good luck - Gordon

Obviously, that doesn't help with why it isn't charging.
