Looking for a carburettor replacement for a Renault trafic
Hello Everyone, i am new here and do not have a lot of knowledge about these thiings but we have an air leak due to sindle play in our Solex 35 SEIA carb in our 1992 trafic 1995cc petrol van.. it appears tricky to get hold of an exact replacement...
First question is, does anyone have one of these for sale?! Or know of any breakers that do?
Second question is, is there another carb we could replace it with that would still work? Ive been told a Zenith 36IV would do it but would need adjusting... we want to do this ourselves and feel pretty underconfident atm as a 'specialist' told us it has to be the exact carb from the exact model and yr or van or it wont work! Im aware other option is a refrb kit and much more £££..
Any help greatly appreciated :) Thanks
It will cost you to join but the place to ask is the Renault Trafic Motorhome Register. I'm sure they would be able to point you in the right direction..
Also worth Googling for the Renault Trafic forums....there seems to be a few.
found this on an old web site. If there is play in the spindle you will need a replacement body at least with a carb kit.hopfully a new carb can be found without breaking the bank.
Re: SOLEX 35 SEIA Carb
There are 2 companies that supply repair kits.
www.carburetters.co.uk.Contact name is Ben Shallcross.Make sure you know what you want as the kit I had was seal and diaphragm kit.The butterfly valve or spindle kit is separate.
You could also try Carburetter Hospital(easy to find by google)
There was also a guy at a place called Carbcare based in Lichfield Staffordshire.(Alan Fielding)You can send your carb to him to fully overhaul at their works. Not sure of price of that.
I did my own just the other day with the seal kit.It was not too difficult to do the job,but I still have problems to try and resolve as my idle speed is still very uneven.Internally cleaned with carb spray(various ones on the market)but still drawing air in from somewhere.I may need professional help to cure this fault!!!!
pedromendes is offline
i have replaced many carb spindle bushes over the years some are brass some are nylon
the shafts do also wear but as advised above a cit should be available to service your carb
and get new jets if you can as they do wear
if i strip a carb i clean it in a ultrasonic tank as the passages get gummed up with old fuel deposits
The Trafic was sold in the UK as the Vauxhall Arena, might help if looking for breakers.
You could also try Burlen Fuel Services.
