Oil Change On A Type 4 Transporter

Hi All,

My Autosleeper Trident is on the VW Transporter Type 4 (1997). Anyone done an oil change on one of these? The filter looks very inaccessible and even getting to the sump drain-plug looks difficult. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi caulkhead
If its like my t4 2.5tdi Bilbo then you have to remove the sumpguard after that all is revealed.

Been a good few years since we had a T4( '92 Trooper), but as mentioned they have a under tray, I seem to remember it has 2 fixing bolts at the back of tray and then it will drop down to reveal all, not as bad as it seems.

I'm on holiday this week so can't check for certainty, but being a VW you probably should budget for a new sump plug to replace at the same time as the washers are not supposed to be reused, and the washer is integral with the plug.

Never yet met a Yank I couldn't take an immediate dislike to, and the way this forum is going I’ll add those a bit northwards too.
