My auto-electrician came back today and traced the wiring. He found a problem with the connector to the Body Control Module. It had a pin bent so contact was not being made. I have no idea how this could have happened as nothing has been done that would have resulted in the connector being touched in the last year. Anyway long story short - he didn't have a replacement connector to wire in so he "unbent" the pin, reconnected and all is normal again. So with his call out and hours I would guess that the total cost of this "bent pin" is around £500 plus the cost of a second MOT. At least the problem is solved
