Seems its been a missing engine mount bolt causing the whole thing to rock and so to smash up exhaist mount and the drive shaft to come out.

Well at least itís not the DMF! So should be a lot cheaper to repair.

The reason DMFís are fitted to modern vehicles is because with the highly controlled injection systems, many of which have multiple injections for each power stroke (Fiat multijet being one) the power delivery through the entire drive train is jerky (high frequency so passengers donít feel it). That ďjerkingĒ puts excessive shock loadings through the gearbox and final drive system and results in premature failure. The DMF smooths out those peaks on power delivery. Rather than trying to explain how a DMF works have a look at.....

Bottom line is replace a DMF with a solid flywheel at your peril ESPECIALLY if you intend keeping the vehicle.

Its not the destination that matters.

It's who you share the journey with (even if like me, itís in a caravan!)
I am very fortunate to have Mrs Plodd to share mine with

Hi guys, just a few photos the garage took.
Exhaust manifold smashed, engine mount brackey snapped and obviously the drive shaft. ALL because of one engine mount bolt that was MISSING. engine did what engines do, rocked until snap, bang.
Good news is
A) all outside the gearbox
B) garage who changed clutch in March (when it wasn't mine) asked my garage to send an estimate !!
I have asked my garage to look into gearbox for my peace of mind ! I will pay for that unless there is some damage

My guess at the cause of loss of drive was right, perhaps for the wrong reason but a failed CV joint was the problem.

Why do you want the gearbox investigated? it is very unlikely that the internals of the box have been damaged by the problem, I would have thought your garage would have told you that.
Are you/they suggesting removal and strip out or an oil analysis type approach?

No. Entirely my own thinking. Wanting to go to germany, austria by the end of the year, AFTER a tootle round Scotland. Simply for peace of mind. And yes, as you said, probably unnecessary
