tolls in Turkey

As we are heading for Turkey next month, we have read that the tolls do not accept cash or credit card. I understand there is a system of registration and a pre credited card for payment however we can't seem to find any definite information. Help please.

Hi Hilary,

Up until 2012 there was a system called KGS where you had to swipe a preloaded card at each toll booth and it would then show you how much money was left, we used it on our trip but it has now been superceeded by the HGS card as in FB's link.
You should be ok getting one in most main post offices (PTT), they always seem to be able to find someone who speaks English

Tolls were cheap compared to France with the old KGS card, the minimum 30ytl preload seemed to last for ages and we still had a small amount left on leaving if I remember correctly. Hopefully it hasn't gone up much since.

Lots more info to wade through on the government website which needs transgoogling...

BTW there is also a good forum on the aforementioned turkeytravelplanner website.

Have a good trip.
