Don

Is the 2200-0600 ban on sales only applicable to shops or does it include bars and restaurants - in which case it could lead to the old Australian 6 o'clock 'swill', albeit at 2200.

And could seriously further harm Turkeys tourist income.

You might be looking at 4TL to the pound before long

Bars can still stay open 24/7 Geoff.

Can you imagine not getting a drink in Turkey after 10pm? Have you ever been to Marmaris?

The country would be bankrupt in a week! It only gets going about midnight!

Geoff see

Restrictions on the sale of alcohol

No sales to under 18s It was always the law but now there are tougher penalties on those who sell to under age drinkers.

No sales between 22:00 and 06:00 Currently shops can sell alcohol any time but that will change from September. A similar law exists in the UK so this brings Turkey into line with many developed countries around the world.

No sales within 100 meters of schools and mosques This will apply to new business only. Existing places can stay as they are now.

No sales from filling stations or other shops on main roads.

But what about bars, hotels, clubs etc?

There are no restrictions so you can drink 24 hours a day

I expect that this is to keep all those pi** head tourists off the street and into the bars.

Don, thanks

Sounds all a bit tame and symbolic - maybe it is intended to be - to not upset the Secularists too much, for now, and then tighten the times/locations later.

Geoff
Geoff,

This makes interesting reading considering its 5 years old Seems the law hasn't been enforced in many areas.
