New Spanish Speed Limits

Whilst it's still undecided whether any of us will get the chance to go to Spain this year or not, new speed limits have nevertheless been introduced and could be a trap for the unwary/unaware

Thanks, 30kph for most urban roads, 20 for some and 50 for only a few and that is for ALL vehicles. The actual limit applicable depends upon whether it is single carriageway, dual, whether the pavement is raised above the road or not, so in other words;

Drive very carefully and make sure that you have read that clear article thoroughly before venturing on the roads in urban Spain.

Any comments above are only MY OPINION and should be read as that.

30kph is 18.64mph. The local police will be making a fortune.

The local police enforce these new limits and they have been issued with hand held speed guns where i live they only operate on certain roads so everyone drives at normal speeds elsewhere. So the locals are happy and the police make money from the outsiders.Watch out the 30 signs are much smaller dia than in the UK and here they are fastened to the lamp posts so are easy to miss if you are lucky its marked on the road.

Chris has just announced that he has no intention of going to Spain again if he has to drive at those speeds. One of his arguments is that we visit a local town for our shopping needs and the road to it should be fine but the same road enters the town and exits it on the other side. If this road is considered an urban road then the speed limit will kick in fairly early and severely limit progress.

Try telling Chris that! He was a boy racer and always has a time clock in his head when travelling. Our motorhoming days were never spent "meandering". Funnily enough when we, once, had to meander through France due to being early for our ferry booking (there's a surprise!) he really enjoyed it

I find I'm going faster in the Golf than the Tiguan. It's the vehicles response that increases my speed. The camper just kept up with traffic and we rarely rushed unless late for a ferry.

WE do have by passes in Spain for most towns a few you have to suffer the 30 or 20 km speed limit also there as been an increase in the use of speed humps on urban roads but most of your long distant travel will be by major roads or motorway which are not affected
