Suggestions in Northern Portugal?

I'm in Monsanto, Portugal, NE of Castilo Branco.

I sail from Santander in 2 weeks. But having reached the focus of my trip (Toledo) I'm at a loss where to go now! Tho it will be any part of Portugal further north than here. Haven't decided whether to go to the coast or not (which I've done a few times) or to stay inland. I've simply been heading west from Toledo till I met Portugal!

Any advice gratefully received.

Yes, only the Algarve. Apart from 5 days near Lisbon.

We didn't make it to Northern Portugal. We loved the area north of the Algarve up to central Portugal and found the people so welcoming. We turned right to head off to meet friends in Spain but promised ourselves a return trip one day. What about just meandering, Jean? Or do you like a destination? We were wild camping on our trip and followed the wild camping book on places to stay.

Personal Aire
Have a look at Frías. It’s in northern Spain but on your way north. It’s a hilltop town with hanging houses. Nice little aire and plenty to see with numerous restaurants. Fascinating place and friendly.

I'm not signing anything.

The two impulses in travel are to get away from home, and the other is to pursue something - a landscape, people, an exotic place. Certainly finding a place that you like or discovering something unusual is a very sustaining thing in travel.

That's exactly what I normally do Pat! When I came down through France I was looking to see which places (in my general direction - meaning south rather than north!) had a green rectangle round the name - that's supposed to mean they're interesting! It worked mostly, so I got the maps out again. I use Park4night, an app that does what your wildcamping book does I suspect.

I'll keep that in mind thanks. At the moment I'm heading NW and will probably come at Santander from the west.

Just to say I took your advice and loved Frías! Thank for that!

The journey there, the village, castle, aire - everything was great!
