Have any of you folks visited Madrid in your motorhome? By that I mean have you stayed in the area and camped and then gone in by public transport?

If so could you please recommend a campsite?

Thanks

Graham

We stayed at Camping Escorial

We cycled out to the Escorial Palace and drove to visit the Valley of the Fallen (otherwise known as Francos tomb ????)

But worth a visit.................there is something awesome about fascist architecture.

We didn't go into Madrid but I believe there was a bus and train to the centre...........need to check that out.

Segovia was also a good stopover

Peter and Carmel

Spooky travelled with us for 5 years and over 20,000 miles. He died aged 11 and is buried in Delphi in Greece.
Now that's a great age and a great adventure for a rabbit and I think he deserves a mention.

I stayed at Camping Osuna one Easter. Very easy transport in to centre. - about 10mins walk to metro n half an hour on the sub. Excellent service. Buy a multi-journey ticket for value. Loved the city!

Used Camping El Escorial some years ago. A very large campsite just ticking over out of season, but OK. A plus is that you can circumnavigate Madrid completely heading south by leaving the N1 onto the N110 (Segovia) and approach El Escorial that way. The downside for you might be that the nearest transport is over a mile away as I remember.

Take a shovel! Madrid is at high altitude, Spain or not, and we had to dig ourselves out of the campsite. On leaving I thought that the receptionist was asking me for 'change' when he was actually saying 'chains' for the motorway, no vans or lorries without. Guess who had to take the back roads? Funny how the memories come flooding back.
