Another NL Weekender

This will the third WE in a row, the weather is looking great! Previous WE's have been:

Wassenaar (near Den Haag) & Doordrecht
Castricum (nea Alkmaar)

This WE: Hoenderloo (Nationale Park De Hoge Veluwe). MTB's and hopefully BBQing in the sun

At last I'm starting to see some of the country I moved to 11 years ago!

Have got to the stage now that I can easily get to the van, with the least packing and upon arrival, not faff around getting things sorted out.

Loved De Hoge Veluwe when I went there many years ago on my first visit to Europe. A big green lung in the middle of a very populated country. All those white bikes to ride around were a fascination from me coming from a country where everything is nailed down ... or gone! Loved the Kroller-Moeller museum too. My first experience of world-famous art.

Enjoy NL!

Due to the weather, we changed plans and went to Zeeland; my first time there and highly recommended!

Took a 70km bike tour around some of the Delta Works, crossing the Oosterscheldedam and Zeeland Brug. There's a whole network for fietscafes (cycle cafes), which I assume encourage sweaty cyclist types such as myself

Zierikzee was stunning! I'm definitely going back, but to camp nearby and spend time there.

You can plan your cycling tours in the NL with this tool (or manually as you cycle - the maps and signs are everywhere):

www.anwb.nl/fiesten/fietsknooppuntenplanner

On the cycle paths, you see maps like this:

Zoomed in:

So you can plan your route by the numbers, then follow the signs from number to number. The map shows distances between the numbers so you can plan a bike ride by distance in advance.

We noted the numbers, wrote them on a piece of cardboard and fastened to handlebar.

This weekend I'm off to Lauwersoog, with a day trip cycling to Schiermonnikoog, which was part of the Atlantic Wall and the very last place to be liberated from the Germans following WWI.

The weather is supposed to book up, it'd better; it's pretty bad atm

We're stopping at http://www.camping-lauwerszee.nl/

There was another site nearby and more coastal, but was really expensive!
