Well we don't really 'like' it ray but at least we know.

I just spotted that as well Ray. Bit disconcerting as I have a crossing booked (via Caravan and Motorhome Club) out of Poole on 27 August, well I did have!

Now I wonder what will happen to my booking which was fully paid for in November. One of the reasons I booked was because on that route caravans go free. So will I get offered another sailing, say
Portsmouth to Caen for the same price on the same date? will I have to now pay for my caravan which will virtually double the cost? Or will they just say “Here’s your money back, off you go”?

I will wait a while and see if the CMC or BF contact me. I wonder how I stand legally?

Andy

Its not the destination that matters.

It's who you share the journey with (even if like me, it’s in a caravan!)
I am very fortunate to have Mrs Plodd to share mine with

I'm sure you will be 'accommodated' Andy. If you find it's more expensive then I would call and negotiate as I am sure the telephone operators have some discretion and leeway to adjust the tariffs a bit. Or if all fails then ask for a refund as Transmanche Ferries will be cheaper for OAP's.

Cheeky bugger!

Sadly not true though Ray because booking with BF, via the CMC there is no charge for a caravan, (that’s why I booked through them, even cheaper than using my Club Voyage member discount, crazy situation really) and that represents a very BIG saving, as in it just about halves the cost.

I was trying to say Andy that if BF don't play ball and allow the van free due to 'changes' in the T&C now, Transmanche are cheap to start with an will knock off another 20% for anyone over a certain age.

Ah, sorry Ray I misunderstood you!

Valid point, thanks. I will give it a while and see what I hear from CMC.

Out of interest I have checked the DFDS/Transmanche costings, very interesting! Some of their sailings are at “Oh my god O’clock” but those ar a reasonable time, with the OAP 20% discount applied, are very competitive with BF Poole to Cherbourg. The only slight drawback is that Poole is much closer to home than Newhaven, but it’s much closer than Dover.

Yup Andy, horses for courses.
As and when the Cherbourg boat is not running my only option is BF Via Caen. But I can save over £100 by driving an extra hour to Dieppe and Newhaven is a similar distance to Bognor as Portsmouth for me.
Yes silly O'clock is bad but for me I drive to Dieppe after midnight and little traffic it's easier.

Obviously the fast craft Cherbourg to Portsmouth is worth the extra cost to me but it only runs in high season when it's not broke.

Not a lot of use to me, they don’t take caravans on that vessel.

Do they give you the 20% off automatically Ray or do you have to call them?
