Sorry, late response.

The C47s, if not all, have a short horizontal structure behind the lower part of the fin which houses a tow-hook for gliders. Not many airliners towed gliders.

See if you can spot it on the Para Drop.

Perhaps the long approach means they end up over Norfolk? We are not that far from Mildenhall which is a US Air Force re fuelling base.

Just had the 30 odd C47 aircraft pass over the trees in front of us several times going to drop near St. Mere Eglise about 13.00 today.
Sadly my handy camera couldn't zoom into them close enough to pick out distinguishing marks.
