Biarritz & Hendaye Aires update

Just for info if you're heading that way..

The aire at Biarritz now has a barrier and price is up to €12 p/n...

http://tourisme.biarritz.fr/fr/point-infos

The Aire at Hendaye has been redeveloped and now charges €10 p/n, payment by credit card only...

St Jean de Luz is still free but you wouldn't want to overnight there anyway (imo) unless you're profoundly deaf.

We spent a few nights in St Jean de Luz - grand if you use earplugs.

Mind you, this is from the woman who heard nothing when there was a head on smash about 15m from her sleeping head, and the attendant ambulance with siren blaring didn't wake her either!

Pretty sure from our recent visit there that the services are an additional 4 Euros too

The aires are a bit grim around there but I love the area for a "seaside" holiday. Some of the beaches and coves around St Jean de Luz and up towards Biarritz are stunning.

What we did find when touring about on the bike is that in September there were a fair few campsites hidden away that were about the same price as the Aire is now.

If you have secondary transport or are very fit cyclists the aire just 6 miles above St Jean de Luz at Col d'Ibardin is free, quite pleasant with some nice views and lovely walks in the low mountains. We ended up staying there a week in September. No services but we used the ones on the Aire at St Jean. http://goo.gl/maps/UtJv8

I much prefer that part of the French coast to the Med side.
