I'm so terribly sorry to hear of your sad loss. You did everything you possibly could, time will heal the pain (a little) and you will have some great memories. I'm not sure who said it but its so very true, "The only failing with dogs is their too short lives".

Sorry for your loss especially one so young you feel especially robbed of the years they should have had.:-:
At least she died at home with you and was spared a final stressful visit to the vet ..

Enjoying our motorhome travels in UK and Europe looking forward to our new van a Globemaster campscout

thing is she loved to go visit the Vet, both dogs do (did) and she was well loved by several of the staff there as she would always make a fuss to go say hello inside the staff areas

So sorry to hear your sad news. Sounds like she had a great (but too short) life. By liking the vets you know she was not distressed.
You will be sad, but, have great memories too, in time. Hopefully in time, another dog will steal your heart to add to the good times.

I'd forgotten about this posting and just stumbled across it and have a postscript to add

Since Jewel was taken from us at a young age we have since 'rehomed' a 19 week old chocolate Labrador named Molly and she is now almost 8 months old. Totally different temperament to Jewel thankfully and has settled in with Meggy really well

However, In October Meggy developed a bad leg that required amputation and chemo for osteo sarcoma. Her long term prognosis is not good, perhaps a couple of months, maybe a year - 4 months and counting so far, and she's full of beans and living life to the full. Well as best we can with the atrocious weather we've been having.

Molly and Meggy pictured, Meggy 2 days ago paddling in the Exe.

What can we say

They pass through our lives, love us and teach us to love

They have no fear of death, no idea of the right time to die age wise

They just live and whether that life is long or short makes little difference to them

All they ask is to be loved and to love us

I recon Megs is well loved

You will be devestated to lose her

She will just be happy to have been yours

Sandra

Great post Sandra, exactly how I feel.

We have just got Ted a year ago, a wonderful Cocker, owners paid £600 for him as a pup and then didn't want him.

He loves me so much. The feeling is mutual.

Paul.

So sorry for your loss. It's the big down side of having dogs and cats, isn't it? We've lost 2 so far, but they were old chaps. Six is far too young. Take care of yourselves and remember all the good times.

When we lost Charlie dog I have to admit I went straight to the dog's home and volunteered to foster. Then we failed at that because we kept her. We now have dog 2 - another failed foster, though to be fair she did briefly go to another family from us.

It must be hard for Meggy. Give her a big hug from me!

What a lovely post Sandra! So poignant but also so true. They light up our lives and we must be grateful, for however long it may be........

Infamy, infamy! They've all got it in for me!
