For Marco.

1st May 2012 to 15th October 2013.

You came to us on spec - exploring when we first met Lara, missing again when we came to collect you. You had wandered to Llanwrtyd and ended up at the vets. So we called you Marco Polo and what a great explorer you turned out to be, my beautiful boy.

Matt tamed you while we were on holiday, you walked our banisters and played with wardrobe mirrors. I remember you howling all the way back from the vets, unable to walk or eat properly. The Christmas tree - straight up it, no problems! It will miss a decoration this year.

Your love of DIY, exploring under floorboards and any activity. Carrying you up and down stairs singing the Owl and the Pussy Cat or Bohemian Rhapsody. You loved it. The faster and darker the better.

Peeing on things was a bit of a nuisance, but I never minded - it was what Marco did. Scratches when playing "rats" were nothing.

Just last week you tried to emulate Lara's disc catching - you could never work it out! Hiding tidbits from the fridge in my shoes so Lara wouldn't see you. Spying on next door through the air brick. Getting locked in the laundry overnight. Stealing my socks. I'll add to the list over the weeks ahead, my handsome boy!

The cuddles in bed - how you liked it so warm I shall never know! Your soft white fur, paws, such a huge bushy tail. Your little soft nose. Big ears.

Such a short life, my beauty. We love you so much and nothing will replace you in my heart. I've put the shoes away now. Too sad to wear them.

Sleep soft and dream of mice, my beautiful Marco.

Dammit, screen gone all blurry, must go to Specsavers.

Thanks, AHC, nicely said. The tears will moderate to sadness, but the memories will last forever.

Sheesh, Tuggles gettin' all sentimental, whatever next!

My screen gone all fuzzy too - must be a forum problem.
