Vauxhall Vivaro

Hi. Newbie here - thinking of buying a Leisuredrive (Bolton) Hi-Top based on the VW T5. A 57-plate vehicle, newly converted, for 22.5k.

Although I do like the VW option, it seems rather pricey compared to other options such as Peugeot Boxer, Fiat Ducato, Renault Trafic, Mazda Bongo, Toyota Hiace etc etc.

Any comments or advice?

I saw a private seller selling a 2008 Vauxhall Vivaro based HiTop going for 16k, which seems very cheap. Is the Vivaro any good? I have seen reports on the internet suggesting that it is unrelaible.

Any comments/advice?

Hi.
I may have got this wrong,but i think that the Vaux/vivaro,is kin to the Renault Trafic/Master. Had a Renault Master,still wish i had it,(The Renault bit LOL)so check this out,as the Renault is a serious bit of kit.

Hi Ted and welcome Nick!

My best friend next door is a central heating engineer cum plumber. He leases a Vauxhall Vivaro. His 3 years is done, but, for the first time that I can remember, he is extending the lease by another year. When his cab area is tidy the van really is a pleasant drive.

As Ted said, the Vivaro and Trafic are one and the same, just some sort of mutual marketing agreement.

Vivaro/Master - an excellent buy. Best base vehicle we have ever had.

All three of them (Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic & Nissan Primastar) are built by Vauxhall in Luton.

I have owned a Vivaro from new since 2003 for my business use. First major expense was at 4 years old when the German made Bosch fuel pump disintegrated spreading shards of metal throughout the entire fuel system. Repair cost at local independent garage 1600.
Since then it has had new front suspension lower arms, new disc brakes all round, handbrake cable snapped (new one cost just .
I have heard reports of weak gearboxes but mine seems OK so far.
Still on the original battery and standard stainless steel exhaust.

Great to drive but not the best turning circle in the long wheelbase version.The later models have different engines and the fuel pump problem sorted with a new modified Bosch pump.

If you look on the net there are plenty of reports about unreliable VW transporter and Mercedes Vito vans which cost more to buy and more expensive on spare parts. So overall I would still recommended it and plan to replace mine with another of the same.

Apologies and correction - I got my vans mixed up. The Vivaro isn't the same as a Renault Master - that is a Movano.

We have a 2007 Vivaro 1290 which we recently purchased and are considering converting.
Best van I've driven!
Returns 50+ to the gallon and drives wonderfully.
The 6 gear high power version seems the best to go for, still has the 2000cc engine and loads of torque.
We will remap engine as 6th gear doesn't like speeds below 50mph.
If the gearbox sounds rough then get it fixed ASAP as repair costs will rise if you ignore the warning signs.
We would also like a single passenger seat but they seem to be like rocking horse ................
Will probably fit captain swivel seats and spoil Helen!
