Help! My Ducato 2.5 D engine has blown up!

Hi all....my first post, not the best way to start!

I purchased a 1992 Hymer 564 last week in Cornwall. It seized up when I got to Swindon Now, on inspection, engine is finished...pistons cracked etc.

The engine is a Fiat Ducato 2.5 diesel, which is not an easy thing to find. Does anybody have any suggestions where I could find one? Or any other creative fixes?

Also, as that was the first journey I made, do I have any recourse?....it was a private sale. The guy seemed genuine, he had only driven it maximum 20 miles at a time in the last 3 years, so it hadn't done any long journeys for a while.

Thank you.
David

If he is genuine, then he should either give you your money back or help out with the replacement costs
Give him a call

So sorry to hear this, I dont believe though that this guy you bought it off was not aware of any problems.
Have a look at back issues of MOT,S if he supplied you with them, in its service history, hope you have some service history, in the end I would arrange for it to be delivered back to him, The A.A. MIGHT HELP IF YOU ARE A MEMBER.
So sorry mate.

did you check it over before you left?
any signs of oil leaks?
is it fiat peugoet or talbot?
and what miles has it done?
yes you do have recourse through the courts but takes time may be better to have a word first to see if he will help out lets know how you get on.

Thanks for the comments...
Engine looked clean and dry before I left. It's a fiat Ducato, about 75k miles.
The guy is a priest who sold it to me, he lives in a beautiful part of Cornwall, so they just used it to park on beaches and clifftops etc around there. I can imagine with only doing short journeys like that, some problems might not manifest even if they are there...I'll talk to him when he gets back from his retreat though

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Our Fiat engine also blew up after less than 35k.

There are lots of replacements around one such company is:

Thank you AndrewandShirley, I just called them, and they said they couldn't help as the engine is too old....they suggested Googling, so I'll have another go at that

What about this:

Help someone out when they're in trouble and they'll remember you when they're in trouble again.

Thanks Gaspode.....we are just checking to see if the head is still useable. If so, this could be just what we need

Unfortunately, the head is cracked, so not useable.
Does anyone know whether the Fiat Ducato 2.8TD is interchangeable with the 2.5 1992?
